Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

The Local Development Scheme included the preparation of a Housing Allocations and Policies Development Plan Document which was intended to provide the framework for housing and housing related development in the future. However, due to Local Government Reorganisation in Cheshire it was decided not to take the DPD forward. Instead, a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is being prepared.

The SHLAA is required by national planning policy, set out in Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3). It will identify sites with potential for housing; assess their housing potential; and assess when they are likely to be developed. Inclusion in the SHLAA does not necessarily mean that permission will be granted for residential uses. The SHLAA will inform LDF documents but does not itself allocate sites. It will however be a key document in helping to deliver housing sites in the district.

The draft SHLAA was the subject of public consultation from Monday 4 August 2008 to Monday 8 September 2008. The document was amended as a result of comments received during this consultation period. Planning Committee on 14 October approved the final version of the SHLAA. The final document, its appendices and a summary of comments received can be viewed by clicking the links below.
