| The Regional Spatial Strategy will help shape the future of the borough |
The Local Development Framework for Ellesmere Port & Neston will set out how the borough will develop over the next 15 years and similar plans are being drawn up for each district in the country.
A similar exercise is being undertaken at regional level where a development plan called the Regional Spatial Strategy is being prepared.
The Local Development Framework will set out the key local issues whereas the Regional Spatial Strategy will highlight the planning framework for North West England.
The plan covers many economic, housing, planning and transport issues up to 2021.
For example it indicates how many houses should be built each year in each local authority area, and highlights which town centres should be allowed to expand, where major new employment sites will be created, where green belt changes will take place, where new regional parks will be developed, and the key transport routes for the region.
The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) is almost at its final adoption stage. The Secretary of State has recently published some proposed changes to draft RSS following the receipt of a report by an independent panel. That panel undertook an examination of the draft policies in 2007.
Comments are being invited on these proposed changes until May 23 2008.

For Ellesmere Port & Neston, the Regional Spatial Strategy is an important document.
