Vauxhall's factory at Ellesmere Port is to be one of four plants in Europe that will build the new Astra.

Work has been completed on a new housing needs and market assessment for Ellesmere Port and Neston.
This assessment will help inform the development of both the Local Development Framework and our housing strategies, by highlighting the scale and nature of housing need in the borough and looking at how housing markets are operating in the area.
A specialist research company, Outside, was appointed to undertake the work in accordance with a brief set down by the borough council. The work was overseen by planning and housing officers at the council together with representatives of the Ellesmere Port & Neston LSP Housing Programme Board.
The work included a combination of postal and personal interview surveys of around 15,000 Ellesmere Port & Neston households, along with a detailed analysis of existing information such as house prices, income data, housing market trends etc. We would like to thank all those that took part in the survey.

A new Housing Market Assessment will be done for Cheshire West and Cheshire. It is expected that the consultants will be appointed before the end of October 2008. This will provide an update of housing needs across Cheshire West and Cheshire.
The previous detailed housing needs survey was completed in 2001 and was updated in 2003. Both were completed by David Couttie Associates, based in West Yorkshire.
The 2003 update showed a significant increase in the need for affordable housing within the borough. The borough council has used this information to help with its negotiations with landowners and developers to secure affordable housing on new housing sites.
