Changes to Permitted Development Rights

Changes to Permitted Development Rights

The government has announced changes to the Permitted Development Rights for houses. These changes come in to force on 1 October. These new regulations may mean you might not need permission to carry out the development in some cases and in others like new driveways it will mean that you might need permission.

You can view a copy of the Town and Country General Permitted Development Order at the link below: -

A visual user guide, provided by the planning portal, highlights which works are allowed under the new permitted development rights regime. To use the guide please click on the link on the house or the link below.

Householders are advised to read the above guides to check whether any proposed works are allowed under the new permitted development rights, as some works which were previously allowed may now require a planning application if work has not commenced before 01 October.

You are advised to check with the Planning Department before starting any works to your property.

If confirmation is required from the Local Planning Authority, householders should apply for a Lawful Development Certificate of Proposed Development and a planning officer will assess the plans for a fee of £75. For further information regarding lawful development certificate clink on the link below:-

Householders are also reminded that Building Regulations are unchanged and that some projects that do not require a planning application may still require a Building Regulations application. Details of which projects require a Building Regulations application can also be found alongside the planning permission information on the Interactive House.

For further Information about the changes to the legislation can be found at the Office of Public Sector Information or at the Planning Portal.
