
The Pioneers statue celebrates the canal builders who founded Ellesmere Port and was cast in bronze by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent.

Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council has now considered the a planning application for the major redevelopment of Neston Town Centre.
The application covers plans for a Town Centre development with new supermarket, town square and market, new decked car park. Proposal for 14 new residential units and community facility units are also included.
A special meeting of the Borough Council's planning Committee considered the planning application in Neston on 12th June 2008. Planning Committee decided to grant planning permission.
The meeting also considered application P/2008/307, for the Construction of car park, with occasional market use & erection of Unisex toilet on site of Belmont Cottage & 2 year temporary use of Brook Street site as temporary market. Planning Committee decided to grant planning permission.
