Supporting Purchase and Relocation Grant
In those situations where the existing home of a disabled person is clearly unsuitable for adaptation, the council may alternatively offer financial assistance to help an individual relocate to a more suitable property. The council will consider each case on its own merits and where appropriate, provide financial assistance towards relocation expenses, up to a maximum of £2,000.
In addition, where the council is satisfied that the applicant is unable to afford a suitable alternative property in the locality, financial assistance towards the purchase of a home will be considered. The maximum amount of assistance that can be awarded for this purpose is £20,000.
How do I apply?
To be considered for this grant, the council would have to be satisfied that it is not possible or reasonable to adapt your current home. This would be established in consultation with an occupational therapist at Cheshire County, Social Services. Therefore in the first instance you are advised to contact the Occupational Therapy team for an assessment.
Are there any conditions attached?
The grant applicant will be required to sign a certificate confirming the intention of the disabled person to occupy the property as their only or main residence for five years, (or such shorter period as the person's health and other relevant circumstances permit). Full grant repayment on disposal of property within this five year period.
The purchased property has no category 1 hazards. (see Housing Health & Safety Rating System information).
No further financial assistance for 15 years (except for Disabled Facilities Grant)
