British Gas has teamed up with Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council to offer households a £50 council tax rebate if they install cavity wall insulation through this scheme.
All householders have to do to benefit from the rebate is to be owner-occupiers and have cavity wall insulation installed by a British Gas-appointed local installer.
As well as saving people over £100 on their yearly heating bill by improving their home's insulation, British Gas will arrange for each participating household to be credited with £50 to their council tax account.
Under the scheme the installation of cavity wall insulation will cost £250 for most properties with larger 4 bedroom detached houses costing only £275. Residents don't have to be British Gas customers to benefit.
Paul Ince, the borough council's Housing Strategy Unit Manager, said: "This really is a great offer. The cost has been subsidised by British Gas and by the time households receive their council tax rebate and benefit from savings on their heating bills, the insulation will easily have paid for itself in 12 to 18 months."
He added: "Our aim is to help people make their homes warmer and more comfortable, while saving money on their fuel bills and helping to minimise carbon emissions, which are damaging to the environment.
"We very much hope as many owner occupiers as possible will take advantage of this excellent offer."
Linda Dixon, Senior Business Development Manager, from British Gas said: "British Gas are delighted to be working with Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council in promoting the Council tax scheme which will provide customers with thermal comfort and also allow for a £50 rebate to come off their council tax bill".
