Here are a few benefits of renting from the Council:

You can have a tenancy for as long as you want (providing you don't break any of our tenancy conditions).
You don't have to pay a deposit.
You don't have to pay a registration fee to become included on the Housing Register.
 We don't need any references.
Our rents are lower than the private sector.
We maintain our properties to a high standard and provide an out of hours emergency repair service.
You can transfer to other council property should your circumstances change.
We have experienced teams of officers to deal with any housing issues.
We own a range of property throughout the borough to accommodate all types of households.
You may have the opportunity to buy your home in the future.

Sheltered Housing

Around 1,000 of our bungalows and flats are specifically reserved for elderly and disabled people. The tenants of these properties receive visits from a Sheltered Housing Warden and the properties are fitted with an alarm system linked to the council's central control unit, which allows residents to call for help any time of the day or night, 365 days a year. This accommodation offers independence but the reassurance that help is close at hand if needed.

For further information call the Supported Housing Manager on 0151 356 6936 or contact us using our Housing Enquiry Form

Private residents may also benefit from having an alarm that is linked to the council's central control unit. This equipment is currently supplied free of charge if residents are referred by Cheshire County Council Social Services. For more information contact Social Services on 0151 357 4500.

Council garages

The council owns and manages nearly 2,000 garages, which are located across the borough. You can view maps showing the locations at the following Housing Offices:

 Westminster Neighbourhood Housing Office.
Council Offices, Civic Way, Ellesmere Port.
The Town Hall, Neston (for Neston Area).

Please note that garages are only to be used for the garaging of motor vehicles and not for storage purposes.

If you wish to rent a Council garage call the Westminster Neighbourhood Housing Office on 0151 356 6945 or 0151 356 6946 for an application form. Please note there may be a waiting list for some sites. Garage rents vary from site to site, details are available on request.

The Council also has a number of plot sites. These plots are available for rent, where you can either build your own garage or purchase one from the previous tenant. You apply for plots in the same way as for garages.

If you rent a plot site, it is your responsibility to maintain the garage on the plot. You must either sell the structure or remove it from the site, when the plot rental agreement ends. The Westminster Neighbourhood Housing Office keeps a list of people interested in taking over garages.
