Vauxhall's factory at Ellesmere Port is to be one of four plants in Europe that will build the new Astra.

Rivacre Valley Country Park covers 400 acres of woodlands and wildflower meadows around the Rivacre Brook on the north-western edge of Ellesmere Port.
The park, also designated a Local Nature Reserve, teems with wildlife and plants.
Wildlife
The various habitats are a haven for wildlife all year round. The woods of oak and birch give shelter to the wily fox and weasel hunting through the brambles for a tasty meal of woodmouse or frog.
Orange-tip butterflies can be seen patrolling their territory of hedge garlic flowers. Blues, commas and small tortiseshells are some of the many butterflies found in the coppiced woodland glades.
Old hay meadows provide a spectacular sea of wild flowers in summer. Look out for the parasitic yellow rattle taking its water from the surrounding plants or the ancient common spotted orchid - a primitive plant similar species existing at the time of the dinosaur.
History
Until this century, the majority of the country park was owned by the aristocratic Poole family. They resided in Poole Hall, which existed for nearly 400 years close to Poole Hall Lane, the original driveway to the hall. Much of the land has been farmed over the years, shown by the areas of ancient hay meadow.
There are old hazel coppices in the woodlands where woodsmen once cut the trees for use in basket-weaving or furniture making.
Many old photographs of Rivacre depict its most popular attraction in previous years - an open air swimming pool on the site of Park Meadow which, prior to its closure in the early 1980's, attracted crowds from miles around.
