Air Quality Management Area (AQMA)

The Detailed Assessment showed that levels of nitrogen dioxide(NO2) from road traffic are slightly above national objectives on Station Road and parts of Whitby Road and Princes Road.

In order to deal with this the council has designated an AQMA, which came into effect on Monday 16 May 2005. It has been estimated that over half the NOx present in the AQMA comes from vehicles travelling through it. The piechart below shows how different sources contribute to NOxon Whitby Road.
